IRS Releases Tax Exempt Bonds
Continuing Professional Education Text

WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service recently issued the second edition of the Tax Exempt Bonds (TEB) Continuing Professional Education (CPE) text. The text of educational training material is prepared annually as part of the IRS´ ongoing effort to provide its TEB agents and specialists with top quality training courses.

Although the text may not be relied upon as precedent, the IRS routinely releases the CPE text to the public so the bond community can be informed about current issues and topics on which TEB agents are being trained.

The TEB CPE text consists of three parts. Part I is comprised of technical topics on financial products, school financing and TEB filing requirements. Part II is a new section added to emphasize areas where the Service has identified TEB best practices to be followed by its personnel. Part III provides an update on ongoing examination compliance initiatives and summarizes current TEB developments.

“Issuing the CPE text is an integral part of our continuing efforts to provide TEB agents and specialists with the technical training they need to perform their duties and serve our customers,” said Clifford J. Gannett, Manager, Tax Exempt Bonds, Outreach, Planning and Review.

The FY 2003 text is available electronically on the IRS website at www.irs.gov/bonds. A limited number of hard copies of the text are also available. To request a hard copy, write to:
