IRS Releases New Continuing Professional
Education Text for Exempt Organizations

WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service today issued the text of educational training material for its Exempt Organizations agents.

The Exempt Organizations 2003 Continuing Professional Education Technical Instruction Program – also known as the EO CPE text – provides an annual technical update for IRS Exempt Organizations revenue agents and tax law specialists. Although the text may not be relied upon as precedent, the IRS routinely releases the CPE text to the public so the exempt organizations community may remain informed about issues on which agents are being trained.

This year´s text, the Silver Anniversary 25th edition, adopts a new, user-friendly format for the articles. This revised format contains the same in-depth content coverage as in previous years, but is easier to read and research. Next year, Exempt Organizations plans to distribute individual training articles as they are completed.

“Distribution of these articles throughout the year will allow us to give our agents more timely information on important topics,” noted Lois Lerner, Director of Exempt Organizations Rulings and Agreements.

The 25th edition text contains fourteen articles on a broad range of topics, including: Employment Tax Update – Review of Current Litigation, Disaster Relief – Current Developments and Housing Partnership Agreements. It is available on the IRS website at www.irs.gov/eo.

The EO CPE text is also available in hard copy for sale. Orders should be addressed to:

Internal Revenue Service
Freedom of Information Reading Room
1111 Constitution Ave. NW
Washington, DC 20224

Orders may also be placed by fax through the Reading Room at 202-622-5165.
