Rossotti to Speak July 29 at National Press Club
WASHINGTON - IRS Commissioner Charles O. Rossotti will mark the
one-year anniversary of the landmark legislation reorganizing the nation’s tax
agency with a July 29 speech before the National Press Club.
Rossotti will discuss the IRS’s efforts in the past year and the hurdles
that remain in the months and years ahead. The agency is in the midst of an
unprecedented period of change, ranging from a sweeping agency-wide
reorganization to a massive overhaul of the IRS’s antiquated computer systems.
The modernization drive centers on improving taxpayer service.
The change follows Congress approving the IRS Restructuring and
Reform Act of 1998, which President Clinton signed into law on July 22. The
measure required the IRS to make hundreds of changes, including a new series
of taxpayers’ rights and other provisions aimed at helping taxpayers.
Rossotti’s address will be delivered at a National Press Club luncheon.
The lunch will begin at 12:30 p.m., with Rossotti’s speech set for 1 p.m.
Ticket information is available by calling the National Press Club at (202)
662-7501. The club is located at 529 14th St. NW.
