IRS Advisory Council to Meet June 30
WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service Advisory
Council will meet with top IRS officials on Wednesday, June 30, 1999, from 9:00 a.m. to
4:00 p.m. to provide input into critical issues facing the agency. The meeting, which is
open to the public, will be held in Room 3313 of the main IRS building.
At the meeting, the Council will present its recommendations on a variety of topics,
including IRS restructuring and the role of the Council in the new IRS. The Council has
been closely involved in reviewing and providing advice to the Commissioner about the
on-going modernization and restructuring process for the past year.
The fourteen-member Advisory Council, formerly known as the Commissioners
Advisory Group, is also currently studying the IRSs new performance measures
proposals, taxpayer burden issues, and reasons for noncompliance.
The Council provides a public forum for raising, studying, and making recommendations
on tax administration issues, as well as on IRS restructuring and modernization. The
Council has previously studied and offered recommendations for improvements to the
offers-in-compromise program, the federal tax deposit process, and appeals.
This will be the first Council meeting for nine new members who have joined the Council
since October. Council members come from both private and public sectors, and currently
include small business owners, a representative of a citizen advocacy group, a college
professor, a state tax administrator, and representatives from the tax practitioner and
large corporate taxpayer communities.
Members of the public who wish to attend the meeting may contact Lorenza Wilds or Merci
del Toro 202-622-6440 for further information.
