IRS Awards Print Contract
WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service yesterday awarded a $77 million contract to FDC Technologies, of Bethesda, Md., for a high-speed, non-impact printing systems.
The IRS will use the printing systems to prepare account related correspondence to
taxpayers, including tax due notices, account explanations, and inquiry letters. The
systems will automatically assemble data and execute print jobs. For the past several
years IRS has been using Unisys 0777 stand alone laser printers.
Under terms of the PRINT contract, each of the ten IRS service centers will acquire a
printing system that includes an IBM ES9000/190 CPU that drives three simplex printers
(for one-sided page printing), one duplex printer (for two-sided page printing) and
associated paper handling equipment.
The first system will be put in the IRS service center in Ogden, Utah, within the next
60 days. Pending acceptance of that system, the other nine IRS service centers could
receive the new printing systems by the end of this year.
