IRS Information Reporting Advisory Committee Meeting
The Internal Revenue Service Information Reporting Advisory
Committee will meet Wednesday and Thursday, December 2 and 3, at the IRS National Office,
1111 Constitution Avenue N.W., Room 3313, Washington, D.C. The meetings will begin at
10:00 a.m. both days, ending about mid-day on the 3rd.
Topics for discussion include a status report on progress toward the Simplified Wage
Reporting System for employers and the efforts to determine the feasibility and scope of a
business information reporting program. The group will hear about the prospects for making
the format of Form 1099 more uniform and a prototype of a system for matching taxpayer
identification numbers. The group will also review the status of IRS' Penalty Handbook and
various payee education and communication efforts.
Quality Supplier Award winners will be announced during the meeting. This is the second
year that IRS has formally recognized outstanding achievements in filing error-free
information returns. This year's awardees are being recognized for tax years 1990 and
1991.
