1990 Tax Forms & Tax Table Available
WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service today released
for public comment advance copies of the major individual income tax forms and the tax
table and rate schedules for 1990. Although legislation did not require extensive
revisions to the 1990 tax forms, the IRS has made changes to Form 1040A to simplify filing
for millions of taxpayers.
The IRS's addition of a few new lines to Form 1040A will allow up to six million filers
this year to switch to this form from the longer Form 1040 they had to use in the past.
Form 1040A for 1990 includes new lines for pension or annuity income, payments from an
IRA, taxable social security benefits, estimated tax payments and credit for the elderly
or disabled. Taxpayers reporting these items in the past were required to use from 1040.
There will be two versions of the Form 1040A tax package. One, containing a schedule
for figuring the credit for the elderly or disabled, will be sent to many taxpayers who
used Form 1040 last year, but who should be able to use the new From 1040A for 1990
instead. A different version of the 1040A package, without the schedule for the elderly or
disabled, will be sent to other Form 1040A filers.
In addition, there will be a separate Form 1040EZ package for 1990. In the past, this
very short form was included in the 1040A package.
This is the fourth year the IRS has released advance copies of Forms 1040EZ, 1040A,
1040 and related schedules and forms early in the summer to give the public a chance to
offer comments and suggestions to improve the forms.
The forms released for comment today include Form 2106, "Employee Business
Expenses." Form 2441, "Child and Dependent Care Expenses," Form 4562,
"Depreciation and Amortization,: and new From 8815, "Exclusion of Interest From
Series EE U. S. Savings Bonds Issued After 1989."
The IRS invites taxpayers who have suggestions for improving the forms released today
to send them by Sept. 7, 1990, to:
