Working people in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, like
those working in the United States, are now building protection for themselves and their families under the Social Security
program. The three kinds of monthly benefits under Social Security are:
- 1. Retirement--at age 65. (Reduced benefits are payable as early as age 62.)
- 2. Disability--when a worker under age 65 becomes unable to work because of a disability.
- 3. Survivors--when a worker dies.
In addition to cash benefits, health insurance benefits are available for certain categories of people, whether or not they
are retired.
